What Results Can You Expect from Men’s Back Laser Hair Removal?
Gradual, Visible Progress
With each session, your back hair will gradually become finer, softer, and less dense. You’ll also notice slower and more patchy regrowth as you progress through your treatment course.
The Treatment Timeline
- Sessions 1–5: Noticeable thinning and slower hair regrowth.
- Around Session 6: Many men can expect approximately 60% hair reduction, although individual results vary.
- Around Session 8: A more significant overall reduction can usually be achieved, with remaining hair becoming much finer and less noticeable.
Why Do Men Usually Need More Sessions?
Male back hair tends to be thicker, coarser, and denser, which is why a course of around 8 sessions is generally recommended.
Age and hormones can also influence your results. Younger men, in particular, may experience continued or new hair growth due to higher hormonal activity, including testosterone.
This means they may require additional treatments to achieve and maintain their desired level of reduction.
Long-Term Maintenance
Laser hair removal provides long-term hair reduction, but over time, hormonal changes can stimulate new growth or previously inactive follicles.
After completing your initial course, occasional top-up treatments may be recommended to maintain your results.
For some men, this may be once or twice a year, while others may need them more or less frequently depending on their individual hair growth.

Frequently Asked Questions About Men’s Back Laser Hair Removal.
Does men’s back laser hair removal hurt?
Most men describe the sensation as a quick snap or mild sting rather than pain. The back is generally well tolerated, and the cooling system used with our Cynosure Elite+ helps keep the skin comfortable throughout the treatment.
Is laser hair removal on the back permanent?
Laser hair removal provides long-lasting hair reduction rather than guaranteed permanent removal. After completing a course of treatments, you can expect significantly less hair, with any remaining growth typically becoming finer and slower. Occasional maintenance sessions may be recommended to help maintain your results.
Can I have laser hair removal if I have tattoos on my back?
Yes, but we cannot treat directly over a tattoo because the laser can be absorbed by the tattoo pigment and may damage the skin or affect the tattoo. Your practitioner will carefully avoid the tattooed area and maintain a safe distance around it while treating the surrounding skin.
Can I shave between laser hair removal sessions?
Yes. Shaving is the recommended way to manage hair between your laser sessions. Avoid waxing, plucking or epilating, as these methods remove the hair from the follicle, which needs to remain intact for the laser treatment to be effective.
Can laser hair removal help with back acne or ingrown hairs?
Reducing the amount and thickness of hair can help minimise ingrown hairs and the irritation associated with shaving or friction. Some men also notice an improvement in spots and inflammation around the hair follicles, although laser hair removal is not a treatment for acne itself.
Can laser hair removal help with back acne or ingrown hairs
Yes. The Nd: YAG laser in our Cynosure Elite+ system allows us to safely treat darker skin tones using individually selected settings. Laser hair removal relies on pigment in the hair, so it is generally not effective on white or grey hair and is less effective on very light blonde or red hair.

Before & After Care for Men’s Back Laser Hair Removal
Following the correct preparation and aftercare advice helps protect your skin and allows you to get the best from your laser hair removal treatment.
Before Your Treatment
- Shave the treatment area 24 hours before your appointment. Do not wax, pluck or epilate, as the hair follicle needs to remain intact for laser treatment.
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning before your treatment, including sunbeds and self-tanning products.
- Keep the skin free from products on the day of treatment. Do not apply moisturiser, oils, deodorant or other products to the area being treated.
- Avoid irritating the skin before your appointment. The treatment area should be free from cuts, irritation or active inflammation.
- Tell your practitioner about any medications you are taking or any changes to your health before your treatment.
- Let us know about any tattoos on or close to the treatment area. The Laser cannot be applied directly over tattooed skin.
After Your Treatment
- You can shower after your treatment, but keep the water lukewarm rather than hot. For the first 2–3 days, avoid rubbing or scrubbing the treated area and do not use a loofah or exfoliating glove.
- Avoid excessive heat for 24–48 hours. This includes hot baths, saunas, steam rooms and other activities that significantly heat the skin.
- Avoid intense exercise for 24–48 hours, particularly if the treated area still feels warm or sensitive.
- Avoid sun exposure and protect exposed treated skin with a high SPF.
- Avoid perfumed or irritating products on the treated area until the skin has settled.
- Do not wax, pluck or epilate between treatments. You can shave when needed once the skin feels comfortable.
- Do not scratch, pick or exfoliate the treated area for 2–3 days.
- Apply Aloe Vera Gel after your treatment. We recommend using Aloe Vera Gel for the first 2–3 days to help cool and soothe the treated skin. You can purchase Aloe Vera Gel directly from our clinic or from our Online Shop.
- Follow any personalised aftercare advice given to you by your laser practitioner.
